PC or Mac??

Here me out ... this won't be too geeky! :-) I'm building an photo editing computer for Tim (brother-in-law) right now ... I just ordered the parts last night. Just for comparison we pulled up Apple's site to see what their desktop would cost that would be somewhat comparable. Tim was thinking about going Mac a few years ago when we build his last computer so he was curious. It's hard to make exact comparisons, so I chose worse components on the Mac, hoping it would then be cheaper ... here are my findings ...

Processsor:
* Tim's: 8 cores @ 2.66Ghz
* Mac: 4 cores @ 2.8Ghz
* Verdict: Tim's kicks the snot out of it!!

RAM:
* Tim's: 12GB DDR3
* Mac: 8GB DDR2
* Verdict: Tim's is faster and has 50% more

Hard Drives:
* Tim's: 2x640GB
* Mac: 2x500GB
* Verdict: Tim gets 280GB more

Graphics Card:
* Tim's: GeForce GTX260 896mb DDR3 RAM
* Mac: GeForce 8800GT 512mb RAM
* Verdict: Tim's KILLS the Mac card

Optical Drives:
* Tim's: two 22x DVD+/-RW
* Mac: two 16x DVD+/-RW
* Verdict: Tim's are 30% faster

Case:
* Tim's: blue lights, cooling, quiet, tons of extra ports
* Mac: quiet, cool looking, metal, style points
* Verdict: toss up! both have advantages

PRICE!!!!
* Tim's: $1800
* Mac: $5,099
* Verdict: Mac is ~3 times the price for slower stuff

... I don't get it.
